Liverpool host Sevilla to kick off just their second Champions League campaign in eight seasons. The last time the Reds were in Europe’s elite competition they finished third in their group and dropped out into the Europa League.

It was disappointing given the draw back in 2014/15 was relatively kind one of the Merseyside club. Real Madrid were favourites to top the group but Brendan Rodgers’ men should have had enough quality to finish above Ludogorets Razgrad and FC Basel.

Jürgen Klopp will be hopeful that history doesn’t repeat itself. Despite being in pot 3, the Reds avoided a group of death situation. However, a good start is necessary if they’re to get out of a potential banana skin group.

There are no fresh injury concerns for Klopp heading into the game and Philippe Coutinho is likely to be involved. Could the manager be tempted to include the Brazilian maestro from the start or will he be used as a weapon off the bench in the second half?
