Former Liverpool favourite Luis García believes the Reds are ready to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

The former forward – who is best remembered for his ‘ghost goal’ against Chelsea in the 2005 Champions League semi-finals – is optimistic Jürgen Klopp’s men can compete with Chelsea having run out of steam during the second half of the 2016/17 campaign.

García made 120 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 30 goals, during Rafa Bentiez’s reign at Anfield but didn’t come close to clinching the Premier League title despite European success.

But the Spaniard is impressed with the signings made by Klopp and believes the Merseysiders can finally end their long wait for a top flight title this season.

García was speaking at the Star Sixes event at London’s O2 Arena where the 39-year-old is part of a Spain team which includes Barcelona legend Carles Puyol and Gaizka Mendieta.
