Player Bio

Michael Timlin is a former Republic of Ireland U21 international who plays for Southend United. Born in Lambeth, London on 19th March 1985, Timlin began his career in the youth set-up at Fulham, making one first-team appearance for the Cottagers in a League Cup tie in September 2006. His route to senior football would come with Scunthorpe United, Doncaster Rovers and Swindon Town - he helped the latter reach the League One play-offs in 2009/10. The left-sided midfielder, known for the quality rather than quantity of his goals, signed for Southend on a permanent deal in August 2011 having originally been on loan at Roots Hall. He spent time out of the game after breaking his leg during a match with Leyton Orient in February 2013, during his recovery he was jailed for driving offences – Timlin served half of an 84-day sentence. Kept on by the club, he twice helped Southend to the League Two play-offs – sealing promotion in 2015 against Wycombe Wanderers, a match in which Timlin converted his penalty in an 8-7 shoot-out victory.
