The Reds have had mixed fortunes in the showpiece event of Europe’s premier club competition since it was rebranded in 1992.
There was the miracle of Istanbul in 2005, where the Reds, inspired by Steven Gerrard, fought back from three goals down against AC Milan to beat the Italian side on penalties.
But there has also been a defeat to the Rossoneri while last season’s painful, and somewhat unfortunate, loss to Real Madrid was difficult to swallow.
Yet when Liverpool travel to the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid to face either Tottenham Hotspur or Ajax on June 1, it will be an opportunity for players to make themselves heroes. For legends to be born.
One goal could be all it takes, and the scorer would go down in folklore. It could be Sadio Mané. Or perhaps Mo Salah, back from injury. Or it could be someone a little else likely.
