On Tuesday we broke the exclusive news that Liverpool had set their sights on Dortmund’s Matthias Ginter but they also intend to bring in another centre-back.
Sources have now revealed to Football Whispers their preferred target is Van Dijk, with talks between the two clubs and the player’s representatives said to have already taken place.

The Reds are in the market for a centre-back after seeing their backline crumble on a number of occasions this season and the Dutch defender appears to tick all of the boxes.
The Saints value the ex-Celtic player at around the £50million mark but it is believed a bid closer to £40million may be enough to convince them to part ways with their prized asset.
Manchester City, Chelsea, Everton and Manchester United have all shown an interest but Jurgen Klopp’s side are looking to position themselves at the front of the queue.
Their existing relationship with Southampton, coupled with the fact the player is represented by the same agency who looks after the affairs of captain Jordan Henderson, Nathaniel Clyne and Divock Origi, could put the Merseyside club in the driving seat.
