In recent years it is Celtic who have had the bragging rights. In fact, Rangers have not beaten the Bhoys in 90 minutes in their last 12 attempts. Although the Gers did reach the 2016 Scottish Cup final after triumphing from the penalty spot following a 2-2 draw.
Celtic have had their fair share of memorable victories, too, though and one of the most famous is their 6-2 triumph at Parkhead on August 27, 2000.
Big-spending Rangers could rightly claim to have been top dog in Glasgow in the 1990s, winning nine in a row between 1989 and 1997 before Celtic finally halted their run in 1998.
But the landscape changed in the 2000s as the Bhoys, under the charismatic Martin O’Neill, began to assert themselves on the Scottish Premiership once more.
At the end of the 2000/01 season the Hoops clinched their second title in a row and they have only been beaten to top spot five times in the 16 years since.
