Leeds United will be hoping to turn around their dire recent form as Championship football returns following the international break. However, they will face a stern test from a side led by a familiar face as they welcome Middlesbrough to Elland Road.
Garry Monk helped the Yorkshire side to the verge of a playoff place last season before departing over the summer. He has since taken charge of Boro, who he has steered to fifth place in the league table, and will be aiming to take all three points off his old club when the two teams meet on Sunday afternoon.
Leeds have endured terrible results of late, losing seven of their last nine league games to drop from top of the league to tenth place worryingly quickly. The decline has led to mounting pressure on head coach Thomas Christiansen, who must end his team’s run of defeats at three to ease the speculation surrounding his future.
However, Middlesbrough are confident going into this weekend’s match, having won three straight league matches. In recent weeks they have beaten Reading, Hull and Sunderland, conceding just one goal along the way.
Christiansen doesn’t have any major injury concerns, with striker Caleb Ekuban back in contention. Perhaps the biggest decision he has to make is whether to persist with Andy Lonergan as his No.1 – the goalkeeper played poorly in the loss to Brentford.
Kick-off for Leeds’ clash with Middlesbrough is 13:15pm, and the match will be televised on Sky Sports Football.
