Every club loves its No.9s. But perhaps few teams have the same affinity with that shirt as Newcastle United – and no-one typifies it better than Alan Shearer.

The local lad done good, hometown hero and most iconic player in Newcastle’s history, Shearer plundered 206 goals in black and white to become the club’s all-time top scorer. In doing so, he surpassed the legendary Jackie Milburn and a record which stood for 49 years.

To this day, Shearer is revered at St. James’ Park and remains the Premier League’s leading marksman, with a frankly head-scratching 260 goals in the competition.

In the latest episode of You, me and… from Football Whispers, host Tom Bodell is joined by Magpies fan and freelance journalist Kristan Heneage to reminisce about Shearer’s remarkable career.
