France will be bidding to win their second World Cup and avenge their 2016 European Championships final defeat when they take on Croatia in the World Cup final in Moscow on Sunday.

Les Bleus are in their first final since 2006 and go into this game as undisputed favourites. Didier Deschamps will be hoping to become just the third person to lift the trophy as player and coach after skippering France to glory in 1998.

Current captain Hugo Lloris has been outstanding at the finals, saving his side on many occasions – most notably the stop to deny Martín Cáceres an equaliser against Uruguay in the quarter-final.

The French also have a player on the cusp of greatness in young forward Kylian Mbappé. The Paris Saint-Germain teenager’s rise since breaking through at Monaco has been remarkable and winning the World Cup would cap an extraordinary couple of years for the 19-year-old Parisian.

They have a tough and determined opposition in the final in Croatia. Deschamps will be very much aware of the damage midfield pair Luka Modrić and Ivan Rakitić can do if they are given the space they require.

France will not have a better opportunity to become World Champions for a second time.

Our unique algorithm has predicted the France side it believes will start the game.
