Since the European Cup was rechristened the Champions League, English clubs haven’t done badly in Europe’s elite competition.
But while English teams have been successful, English players have always fallen short when attempting to match the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Raúl, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Alessandro Del Piero and Thierry Henry. All of whom have conquered Europe in their own right.
No English player has breached the 40-goal barrier in the Champions League – something 15 players across the continent have been able to achieve – and only two of the 31 players to score 30 or more in this competition were born in England.
It’s a small pool to pick from, but can you name the 11 players with ten goals or more in the Champions League in just five minutes?
