Former Everton skipper Phil Neville has described Wayne Rooney’s return to the club is a fairytale.

The 31-year-old England captain rejoined the Toffees earlier in the week after leaving the club 13 years ago to sign with Manchester United.

And United and England’s all-time leading scorer has already had an immediate impact, netting a long-range stunner in a pre-season friendly against Gor Mahia in Tanzania.

Speaking at the Star Sixes event at the O2 Arena in London, Neville, who also left Manchester United for the Toffees, thinks the future is bright at Goodison Park.

The 40-year-old has been impressed with their summer spending, which may not have ended with Gylfi Sigurðsson an Everton transfer target.
