Marc-Antoine Fortuné

Marc-Antoine Fortune is a French Guianese striker who plays for Chesterfield. Fortune has made more than 400 career appearances across four countries. Born in Cayenne on 2nd July 1981, Fortune moved to Europe as a schoolboy and began his career in south-western France with FC Angouleme in 1998. From the third tier he stepped up to Ligue 1 with Lille – making his debut in August 2002 – before seasons in Ligue 2 with FC Rouen and Stade Brest, where he scored at a rate of one in three. The tall, powerful striker returned to Ligue 1 with AS Nancy, but only after two years spent in the Eredivisie with Utrecht. In July 2009 Celtic paid £3.8m for Fortune, but after one season allowed the striker to sign for West Bromwich Albion – which was followed by time with Doncaster Rover, Wigan Athletic and Coventry City. Following his release from the Sky Blues at the end of the 2015/16 season, Southend United picked up the striker as a free agent in September 2016. At international level, Fortune was called up by French Guiana in August 2014 for matches against will travel to Puerto Rico, Grenada and Curacao.
