Matt Targett

Matt Targett is an England U21 international defender who plays for Aston Villa. Born on 18th September 1995, Targett joined the Saints’ academy at the age of eight and worked his way up through the age categories to U21 level before making his first-team debut in a League Cup tie against Millwall in August 2014. The attack-minded, but defensively sound, left full-back has been behind Luke Shaw – before his move to Manchester United – and more recently Ryan Bertrand in the pecking order, however he was handed a first-team squad number for the 2016/17 season. Having captained the national U20 side, Targett has made over a dozen appearances for England at U21 level – and was named in the squad for the 2015 UEFA European U21 Championship finals and played in the 2-1 win over France in the final of the 2016 Toulon Tournament.
