Peter Clarke

Born on 3rd January 1982, Peter Clarke is a former England U21 defender who currently plays for Tranmere Rovers. In a career spanning more than a decade and a half and 600 appearances, the experienced centre-half signed for Oldham Athletic in July 2016 and was immediately installed as captain of the side for the 2016/17 season – having previously worn the armband at Blackpool and Huddersfield Town. A tall, powerful ball-winner, Clarke began his career in the Premier League with Everton, making his Toffees’ debut in January 2001, but would make a name for himself at League One level with Blackpool, Huddersfield and Southend United. He reached the end of season League One play-offs on four occasions but won promotion just once, with Huddersfield in 2011/12 – where he captained the side at Wembley and scored a goal in a penalty shoot-out victory over Sheffield United. Having stepped to the Championship, Clarke returned to League One with Bury before signing for Oldham in July 2016.
