Richard Smallwood

Born on 29th December 1990, Richard Smallwood is a former England youth international midfielder who plays for Blackburn Rovers. The tough-tackling defensive midfielder was registered with Rotherham United at the start of the 2016/17 season but signed on a season’s loan with Scunthorpe United. Having joined the Middlesbrough youth set-up as a schoolboy, Smallwood worked his way up through the age categories to captain the reserve side and make a senior debut in the Championship in October 2010. He joined Rotherham United, initially on loan, in January 2014 – scoring the winning penalty in the 2014 Championship play-off final penalty shoot-out victory over Leyton Orient, later admitting that it was his first ever senior spot kick.
