Ryan Taylor

Ryan Taylor is a former England U21 defender who was released by Hull City in July 2016. Born on 19th August 1984, Taylor began his career at Tranmere Rovers, making 100 appearances for the Merseysiders, including his professional debut in the old English Second Division in September 2002 and a League One play-off semi-final defeat to Hartlepool United in 2004/5. That summer, the technically adept, dead-ball expert moved to Premier League new boys Wigan Athletic but a year later broke his leg in a reserve team fixture against Newcastle United. Ironically, on his return Taylor scored his first Wigan goal against Newcastle in February 2007 before joining the Magpies in a swap deal for Charles N’Zogbia in January 2009. Taylor was part of the squad that won the Championship title in 2009/10 but further injury setbacks, including a knee ligament tear in 2012 hampered his time at St James’ Park. In July 2015 he made a free transfer to Hull City but after 12 appearances was released at the end of the 2015/16 season. He played for Wigan again during the 2016 pre-season but was not offered a contract.
