Steven Pienaar

Steven Pienaar is a South African international midfielder who currently plays for . Born in Johannesburg on 17th March 1983, the technically gifted, goal-scoring midfielder came through the ranks with Ajax, firstly with their satellite side in Cape Town before moving to Amsterdam in 2001 where he formed part of the league and cup ‘double’ winning side of 2001/2 and lifted the Eredivisie title again in 2003/4. He signed a Bosman free transfer pre-contract agreement with Borussia Dortmund in January 2006 but after a year in Dortmund, Pienaar joined Everton, initially on a season’s loan, before making the move permanent for £2m in July 2008. He joined Tottenham Hotspur in January 2011 for £2.5m, where he featured in the UEFA Champions League, however returned to Goodison Park on loan a year later before completing a £4.5m move back. Following his release from Everton he signed for Sunderland in August 2016. Pienaar won 62 caps for South Africa and played in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in his homeland.
