Yoann Gourcuff

Yoann Gourcuff is a French midfielder who currently plays for and was born on 11th July 1986. A youth product of FC Lorient and in 2001 he followed his father Christian to play for Rennes. Often compared to Zinedine Zidane, he is regarded as one of the best playmakers in the French game. He would sign for AC Milan in 2006, but he was unhappy and never settled, he was loaned to Bordeaux for the 2008/09 campaign. Les Girondins would win the league and Gourcuff provided 12 goals and eight assists. He signed permanently that summer for €13.6 million and the following year Lyon paid €22 million for his services. Injuries and poor performances followed and despite staying at Lyon for five seasons, but he never fully met his expectations. Released by OL, he signed for Rennes in November 2015 and would be re-joined by his father in 2016.
